There’s a light and energy in Don’s studio as he shows me his latest work. It’s colourful chaos, a kaleidoscope of paint tubes, palette knives, brushes, paint splotched counters and dozens of canvases at various stages of completion— deep blues, subtle browns, verdant greens, muted skillfully as the hues play across the panels. We talk a bit about mediums and technique. He’s gearing up to take some of his work to the Distillery District Art Show in Toronto. He’s a landscape man, that’s clear and I’m curious about how a music conductor comes to paint and why, so we sit down and he begins to tell me…
